Salt lakes were the main inspiration behind the pink brand color. Pink lakes are actually not as rare and uncommon as they are perceived. There are lots across the world: Australia, Bolivia, Spain, Senegal, Russia, Tanzania, France, America, China, Mexico and Azerbaijan! Salt lakes are often the home and breeding sites of flamingos.
Interestingly, flamingos are not originally pink - instead, they are born with grey feathers. They gradually turn pink due to their diet of brine shrimp and blue-green algae. It is this specific algae (known as Dunadiella Salina) that is also responsible for the pink color of the lakes, and the brine shrimps found in them, who are also pink from feeding on the bacteria.
