Protect The Species T-Shirt — Bumble Bee

$85
Seaweed fiber
Peppermint oil treatment
Organic cotton

Inspired by nature and driven by the desire to protect it, we commissioned a series of artworks by artist Raku Inoue. The resulting collection of Protect our species t-shirts features prints of endangered animals hand-arranged using real plants and flowers.

Bumble bees are balancing on the brink of extinction, with population down nearly 90% since 1990, due to the negative affects of climate change, loss of habitat, pesticides, diseases and parasites.

Bumble bees are the most important pollinators of our crops, forests, parks and meadows and a crucial part of the natural mechanism that sustains us and our world.

Technologies

Natural, plant-originated textile treatment uses peppermint oil as its main active ingredient and has an antibacterial effect. We use it as a finishing treatment on our fabric to keep your garment fresher for longer: your t-shirt needs to be washed less often, saving water, energy and time.
We use materials from plants grown without the use of harmful and toxic pesticides.
The organic raw cotton we use holds the transaction certificate from the Control Union, meaning that the yarn is processed according to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS).
The natural fibre we use is derived from saltwater seaweed. It grows abundantly in a natural ocean habitat, avoiding the use of land, water and pesticides in traditional farming. The fibre created is lightweight and absorbs moisture faster than cotton and retains some of its active algae nutrients. At the end of the garment’s life, it biodegrades seamlessly.

Manufacturing

When it comes to fashion diligence, every stitch matters. The challenge was not just in finding the factories with the best production facilities in Europe but the factories brave enough to take on manufacturing using bio and lab grown materials, recycled and sustainable fabrics. We also visit them on a regular basis to ensure that we build strong personal relationships not just with the owners, but with the people actually making our products.

Philanthropy

Every day we borrow resources from the planet.

Through our philanthropy platform, Missions, we give you a range of ways to give back. We encourage any active involvement: either donating time, energy or contributing funds to pioneering individuals and organizations.

Ocean plastic pollution is our current Mission, so when you purchase any PANGAIA product, we donate 1% to 5 Gyres on your behalf. 5 Gyres is a non-profit organization that empowers action against the global health crisis of plastic pollution through science, art, education and adventure.
