Salt lakes were the main inspiration behind the pink brand color. Pink lakes are in fact, not as rare and uncommon as they are perceived. There are many across the world: Australia, Bolivia, Spain, Senegal, Russia, Tanzania, France, America, China, Mexico and Azerbaijan! Salt lakes are often the home and breeding sites of flamingos. Interestingly, flamingos are not actually pink - instead, they are born with grey feathers. They gradually turn pink due to their diet of brine shrimp and blue-green algae. It is this specific algae (known as Dunadiella Salina) that is also responsible for the pink color of the lakes and brine shrimps found in these lakes, who are also pink because they feed on the bacteria.
